In connection with the National Exhibition in Bergen in 1928, the city finally received its own Grand Hotel. It really lived up to its name and was long the city's most luxurious place to stay and a source of pride for the city's inhabitants. The hotel was listed by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage in 2012, as an outstanding example of modern hotel architecture from the 20th century.
The crown jewel of the Grand Hotel Terminus collection, recently renamed Amundsen Bar & Bistro, must also be mentioned. It was here that polar explorer Roald Amundsen held his last press conference before disappearing without a trace in the barren Arctic between Tromsø and Svalbard in an attempt to save fellow Italian polar explorer, Umberto Nobile.
Amundsen Bar & Bistro is today best known for its award-winning whisky collection. The bar was recently renamed Amundsen Bar & Bistro and is a place where noble deeds combine with noble spirits in a historic space with a long tradition for both.
